STARMORA · ASTROLOGY

Your ascendant, from your birthplace's horizon.

Learn how the ascendant depends on birth time and location. Explore the difference between the ascendant and MC and how uncertain birth times affect a chart.

The intersection on the eastern horizon

The ascendant is the intersection of the eastern horizon and the ecliptic at birth. It is not calculated from the Sun sign: time, latitude and longitude are needed. Starmora presents this intersection as a sign and degree in the tropical zodiac.

MC and house cusps

MC is the intersection of the ecliptic with the local upper meridian. The ascendant and MC are separate angles. In Whole Sign and Equal houses, MC is not always the cusp of the 10th house, so the chart marks it independently.

Reliability of the time

Uncertainty in birth time can affect the ascendant degree and house placements. If your recorded time is approximate, keep that limitation in mind when reading the chart. Starmora does not silently select skipped or repeated historical local times; it asks you to clarify the time.
